In May 2019, to kick off a volunteer project at Hillside Community Center during Comcast Cares Day –our annual tradition of giving back and making a difference in our communities – we announced a grant to the City of Colorado Springs (Olympic City USA) designed to support community programs and youth engagement initiatives, which included expanding sport scholarships for youth, Team USA athlete appearances in the community, and broadening the reach of Olympic City USA Field Days.
Now, the grant is being executed with additional support from Children’s Hospital Colorado enabling up to 500 local youth ages kindergarten through second grade to enjoy free soccer this season.

In addition to the funding, we’re working to recruit youth sport coaches from our more than 800 local employees who live and work in Colorado Springs.
The benefits of youth sports are incredibly well documented, and we thought that if there’s any city that should focus on making sure those benefits are available to all, it’s Olympic City USA,” said Jamie Fabos, Chief Communications Officer for the City of Colorado Springs. “While programs have been available in the past to help with financial obstacles, the Gamechanger promotion removes any shame or stigma associated with requesting such help, and just makes it incredibly easy to come out and be a kid. We very much hope that this program will grow to cover more sports and more age groups in the future.”
Through promotions like Gamechanger, more Colorado Springs youth can grow, learn, and be inspired by Team USA athletes through this unique opportunity.
Registration for K-2 soccer open through Feb. 14, and can be completed via mail, walk in or online. While registration fees are waived for every method, online transactions carry a $3 processing fee.
