Accessibility Innovation During Denver Startup Week

The Denver Startup Week logo

Denver Startup Week 2020 is officially here…virtually!

To ensure everyone can participate remotely this year, we’re proud to be the Accessibility Track Sponsor of the 2020 Denver Startup Week, taking place September 14 – 18. Our support will provide for accessibility features like closed captioning and sign language interpretation for all of the sessions, thus making the week more inclusive and accessible for more people.

We also invited our Vice President of Accessibility, Tom Wlodkowski, to host a panel discussion about How Innovation with Accessibility Technology Leads to More Inclusive and Sustainable Business Strategy to help kick off the week of events.

If you didn’t catch the discussion live on Monday afternoon, you can watch the replay here: https://www.denverstartupweek.org/schedule/6965-how-innovation-with-accessibility-technology-leads-to-more-inclusive-and-sustainable-business-strategy#

According to the U.S. Census, approximately one-third of American households have a member who has a disability. Comcast is committed to making our products accessible to the widest possible audience. Through innovation, we are committed to further enriching the customer experience for all users, including people with disabilities. Comcast is making a positive impact in the lives of millions of customers by making its products and services more accessible, opening new doors to independence for people with disabilities.

Comcast has integrated accessibility into our product development, and we’ve been a leader in this space:

  • X1 is one of the most accessible TV platforms in the world.
  • We developed the industry’s first talking TV guide.
  • Voice control has become a game changer for people with disabilities.

In addition to accessible technology, video described content – programming that includes a narration track between the natural pauses in the dialogue that describes the action happening on-screen – is also making a difference. Comcast and NBC have been pioneers in adding video description to live entertainment and sporting events and linking that accessible content to navigation and search tools for people with disabilities.
