Comcast Supports City of Denver Small Business and Non-Profit Economic Relief Programs

August 17, 2020

Comcast NBCUniversal and Denver Economic Development & Opportunity announced a new partnership to expand resources to the city’s small businesses and nonprofits effected by Covid-19.  As part of Comcast’s $100 million multi year commitment to advance social justice and equity, they will provide support valued at $150,000 for city’s small businesses and community-serving nonprofits.

As small businesses and organizations struggle to reopen, rehire, and provide critical goods and services, local economic and business community investment and support can help ensure resources are delivered across our communities in a just, fair and equitable way,” said Amy Lynch, Sr. Vice President for Comcast Mountain West Region.

It’s going to take all of us across both the public and private sectors to lean in and help those most in need to get through this challenging time,” Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock said. “We thank Comcast NBC Universal for stepping up to help our residents and small businesses during this critical time in our community, and we are grateful for their efforts to support our economic recovery with more opportunity for the people of our city.”

The two programs administered by the Denver Economic Development & Opportunity are:

  • Priority Neighborhood Small Business Fund (PNSBF), a grant program to support micro and small businesses located only within priority neighborhoods where some of the city’s most under-represented communities are experiencing rapid socio-economic changes and are the most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.  This is an extension of the Small Business Emergency Relief Fund (SBERF).
  • The Nonprofit Emergency Relief Fund (NPERF) – a grant program which provides support for nonprofits serving Denver to help continue critical programs and services for residents across a spectrum of needs.

On June 8, 2020, Comcast NBCUniversal announced the development of a comprehensive, multiyear plan to allocate $100 million to fight injustice and inequality against any race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation or ability. There will be $75 million in cash and $25 million in media that will be distributed over the next three years, in addition to the existing commitments the company currently makes to thousands of organizations supporting underrepresented communities through the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation and social impact programs.
