Hairspray Live! Watch Party at the Colorado Center for the Blind

Following last year’s successful effort to add video description services to NBC’s musical production of The Wiz Live!, Comcast NBCU continued its commitment to accessible programming by offering video description with NBC’s national broadcast of Hairspray Live! on Wednesday, December 7, 2016.

To celebrate in Colorado, Comcast hosted a special watch party at the Colorado Center for the Blind. Around 15 students and staff from the center were in attendance and enjoyed the full magic of television with video description. Video description is a narration track that is included between the natural pauses in dialogue that describes the visual elements of a show or movie. Since NBC’s annual musical is broadcast live, the video descriptions for Hairspray Live! were created and delivered in real time, offering a truly unique experience and ensured that all fans could enjoy the spectacular sets, elaborate costumes, and dynamic dance numbers of the holiday event of the season.

Hear firsthand how video description helps to bring television to life, by watching the below interview with Dan Burke, Public Relations Specialist, and Julie Deden, Executive Director, from the Colorado Center for the Blind.
